What is a Sunbelt style house plan? As the name implies, Sunbelt homes are found in the Southern states and are designed to capitalize on the region’s wonderful climate. As such, the style liberally quotes from Spanish, Mediterranean, and Southwestern styles, principally in the use of stucco, airy open-plan interiors, and outdoor living spaces. It’s a grab-bag of influences but the emphasis on light, airflow, and the cooling properties of certain building materials never wavers. • Stucco exterior • Tile roof, typically flat of low-pitched • Sant Fe-style arched entrances • Open plan interior, large windows • Outdoor living spaces, courtyards, covered patios
